What is Covid-19?

Covid-19 is a new strain of the coronavirus that was first observed in Wuhan, China last year. Due to the increase of cases in more than a hundred countries, the World Health Organization classified this virus as a pandemic. It targets a person’s respiratory system with symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, and fever. However, some patients who have tested positive for the virus are asymptomatic, which means they do not exhibit any of the symptoms at all.

The virus is not transmitted through the air, but with respiratory droplets like saliva, and contact routes. A single interaction with an infected person could lead to the contraction of the virus and spreading it to your loved ones. Experts and scientists are still studying the nature of the virus, trying to come up with a cure and a vaccine to end this pandemic.

Is Camping Safe?

The majority of the countries still advise their citizens to be on self-quarantine, which means that you cannot leave your house unless it is necessary. This is to ensure that you will not contract the virus and/or you will not contribute to its spread.

Outdoor activities, such as camping, are not safe during this pandemic, especially if you live in a country with a continuously rising number of cases. It is best to stay at home with your family and stay safe. To battle your boredom, here are alternatives for camping:

Camp in your backyard.

You might not be able to camp anywhere far and new, but it does not mean that you cannot take out your tent. Assemble your tent and bring the camp to your home by camping in your backyard. Just do not forget to put on a bug or mosquito repellant, to protect you from bugs while you sleep outside for the night.

Play some games.

This quarantine is a great opportunity for you, as a family, to strengthen your bond. You can play board games or even play sports, if you have a spacious backyard. There are a lot of game ideas on the internet, making sure you never get bored.

Have a picnic in your backyard.

You can spice things up once in a while by going on a picnic in your backyard. Get your picnic basket ready with sandwiches and drinks, and lay down your picnic blanket. Enjoy the sun and the company of your loved ones while still being safe.

It’s better to be safe than sorry, while camping.

Some countries and states, on the other hand, have already allowed people outside of their homes. So, if you live in one of these areas, camping is safe. Here are safety precautions you should follow, while going on camping during the pandemic:

Observe social distancing.

If you go outside, observe proper social distancing. Keep 1 meter or 6 feet distance from strangers and people outside your household.

Avoid physical contact.

To prevent possible infection with the virus, you should avoid having direct contact with people that are not part of your group. You do not know where they have been, or if they have the virus. It is best to be safe.

Make plans and be ready.

Before camping, make sure you have all the things you need. Also, make sure you have disinfectants and hygiene products to keep you clean. Proper sanitation is essential during this time.

Follow your local laws.

While you are out and enjoying yourself, do not forget to abide by the rules. Even if your city is safe and considered COVID-free, it will not hurt to follow laws and advice.

Covid-19 has become a great burden to everyone, no matter if you are working, or a student trying to enjoy the summer break. It disrupted plans you have made prior, preventing you to go on adventures and have fun. However, you must not worry because experts are trying their best to find a cure. While they are trying to end the pandemic, all you have to do is be aware and stay safe.
